Cool & Metal Roofs - Energy Efficent

COOL ROOFS
People who live in tropical climates often wear light-colored or white clothing to help keep themselves cool. They know that light colors reflect sunlight; whereas dark colors absorb heat and light. Roofs are similar to people. If you have a dark-colored roof, your property will be hotter than if it had a light-colored roof.

Cool Roofs very effectively reflect the sun's energy from the roof surface. Cool low-slope roofs are mainly bright white, although non-white colors are becoming available for sloped roof applications.

Cool roofs can reduce the roof surface temperature by up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This reduces the amount of heat transferred into the property below. This helps to reduce energy costs, improve comfort and reduce maintenance costs and increase the life of the roof.

These pictures, courtesy of Hydro-Stop, Inc. show hand-held temperature readings from before and after a cool roof treatment.

Roof before treatment, thermometer reads 178-degree Fahrenheit
at the roof surface on a hot summer afternoon.

After a cool roof was installed, there was a dramatic decrease in roof air temperature.

These pictures represent a flat commercial roofing system. Not every roofing system will deliver the exact same results. However it's worth investigating the options that are available to you. Some utility and insurance companies are offering rebates and financial incentives for a property owner to install a Cool Roof system.

Hurricane Season Starts June 1st!

I often get asked by friends, family and neighbors what can someone do to protect their home against a hurricane. Unfortunately there really isn't a hurricane proof roofing system. Even standing seam metal roofs have their limits. The advice that I give is to make sure that their roof isn't in need of some major repairs or in some cases that they need an entirely new roof. Have a professional look at the roof and give a fair assessment of the situation. The absolute worst thing that one can do is nothing. If you have concerns about the integrity of the roof on your property don't burry your head in the sand. The information you receive from a roofing professional might not always be what you want to hear, but you really should have all of the facts. Then you can determine what course of action is right for you. If you have concerns regarding your roofing system, please feel free to contact us here at

Metal Roofing Gains Popularity in South Florida.

Metal Roofing is quickly becoming a hot issue in South Florida. Many home owners are learning more and more regarding the benefits of metal roofing. This blog will feature a complete article very soon regarding metal roofing. Tri-County Roofing is a metal roofing specialist and currently has many metal roofing projects that are in progress or have been completed.

Below you'll find a video from one of our major projects. This is a standing seam metal roof. The video illustrates how the metal roofing panels are fabricated on the job site. This increases productivity, reduces material cost and ensures a proper installation.

Tropical Storm Andrea - Is Your Roof Ready?

Over the last forty eight hours our phone lines have seen a major increase in activity. Tropical Storm Andrea has brought (back) greater concern for this upcoming hurricane season to many Floridians. If you're concerned that your property might not be adequately prepared for this hurricane season, a Tri-County Roofing representative would gladly consult with you regarding your particular roofing needs.

Many homes in South Florida still have loose tiles and shingles that require minor repairs.
Loose roofing materials can become a very hazardous flying projectile in winds that exceed 50 MPH. Please contact us for any of your hurricane roof repair needs.
