2007 Hurricane Killers!
A recent article published by the Sun-Sentinel gives credit for the (thankfully) uneventful hurricane season this year to the Westerlies. Essentially these strong upper level winds have been responsible for tearing apart tropical storms quickly before they can even reach hurricane levels. Just some of the tropical storms that were effected: Chantal, Gabrielle, Ingrid and Karen.
The warming waters of the Pacific and what is similar to the “El Nino” effect have allowed for the 2006 and 2007 seasons to be relatively calm. While there’s no guarantee that these conditions will remain the same throughout the rest of the hurricane season
(ending November 30th) hopefully these unusual weather conditions will provide cover for South Florida.
